My role was to create a package of products and oversee the recruiting and sales processes. The company grew very quickly and within 6 months had 100 staff based at the old coloroll building in Nelson. My role soon changed when Microsoft canceled the service due to poor uptake on a global basis (Jini was responsible for 80% of all sales of the product). I was tasked with finding an alternative product, and understanding how the microsoft product worked I approached lancaster university and took on 3 graduates who built a replacement product called Jini keywords, I then approached all of microsoft’s resellers and offered to replace any of microsoft product they had sold for free providing they would resell our product in the future, we managed to convert every reseller to our platform. From 2000 to 2002 (2 years) Fire fighter @ I was approached by Deltanet who operated a similar company to commercial networks but relied upon the Domain Name Registry )DNR) Ireland’s version of Nominet to register .IE domain names. the company had fallen foul of the very strict guidelines and had received bad press, the strict guidelines also hindered the growth of the company. My role was to firefight the bad press and to try to obtain the same success achieved at commercial networks. I set about creating a direct sales force which covered the whole of southern Ireland and helped restore the companies reputation with the customers but the DNR was a different matter no matter what I tried I could not get them to relax their registration rules so I was left with one option and that was to create and alternative. I then set about researching how this could be done and discovered that you can subdivide a domain name so I then researched the best domain to buy and the technology etc required to enable this to be done on a mass basis. I discovered the domain IRL.COM wich i then purchased from Internet relations Lts in new york and hosted it on a dedicated server i then enlisted the help of a IT lecturer from queens colledge Dublin to create the software needed to allow for mass subdived. At the point I left Ireland IRL.COM had a total of 12,000 domain names in use appose to only 4,000 .IE domains. the company ceased to trade when the owner died a few years later and the use of IRl.COM declined when DNR relaxed theri criteria. From 1999 to 2000 (1 year) Head of Research and Development @ the company was very small with only three employees when I joined and dealt with the emerging website and domain name market, my role was to create products that could be sold on mass to small to medium sized businesses, I soon developed a range of products that could be mass sold and started to increase the levels of staff, within 12 months we had 70 staff and sold the business for £36 million to Ted fort OBE the company is now Touch PLC who run Touch Local.
