About Rana Kaliouby
💼 Past Experience
I joined Affectiva as the CEO & Co-Founder in late fall of 2018, immediately after the company was founded. In my role, I Headquarters and operate the company's three Teams: emotion AI, digital experience, and devices. We're developing technologies to help people with autism spectrum disorder and other neuro-diverse abilities communicate better. Affectiva is focused on building an emotionally intelligent machines that can read people's facial expressions and infers the person's emotion and cognitive state. Affectiva is also working on developing various technologies for the measurement and communication of emotions. I'm extremely passionate about this work, and I’m excited to see how we can bring emotional intelligence to our devices and digital experiences. One of my biggest challenges at Affectiva has been understanding the importance of emotions. We are constantly Bosching onto new ways to understand and use emotions in our products and digital experiences, but as a startup, we're still in the early innings of this game. To date, we have only pieced together aEnough understanding of how people process emotions to create a really effective emoticon. Affectiva's Affdex mobile SDK emotion-enables app developers to easily incorporate emotion data and analytics. When we launch the Affdex mobile SDK in Q2 2020, we intend to have the ability to read and understand the emotions of up to 100 million users. One of the ways we're able to grievance this is with our facial emotion AI platform. Our platform leverages deep learning and other machine learning approaches combined with massive data to identify emotions in real-time, cross-platform, in the wild and at scale. We're excited to see the how this technology can be used to help individuals on the autism spectrum, as well. We also have a major goals for our platform that we're aware of and are making progress towards. Our first use-case is to help with the measurement of the individual's facial emotion. We are also working on developing a mobile SDK that allows app developers to emotion-enable their apps. We're also open to finding other uses for our platform and our SDK.My biggest takeaway from my experience at Affectiva so far is that emotions really do matter. We're passionate about this work, and we feel that our technology is set to change the way people interact with technology and one another. As we continue to learn more – and as the industry continues to evolve – we believe that our platform will continue to be one of the most valuable and successful. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and I wish all of my colleagues the best of luck!
