When Marty Metro was first diagnosed with hearing loss in late 1995, he knew he would need to find an answer to the money-related challenges that he faced daily. So, in 1996, Marty decided to switch his focus from business administration to hearing research.Eighteen months later, Marty had concluded his first research project as a post-doctoral fellow in the University of Arizona's School of Hearing Sciences. He was awarded the first ever student award in hearing research at the University of Arizona.From there, Marty decided to stay in Arizona and continue his research activities. He was the first deaf person to be a scientist in the School of Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona and has been an instructor and research associate in the program since 1999.Marty's current research focus is on developing novel hearing technologies that can improve the quality of life for deaf people. His current work focuses on developing an exoskeleton head-mounted sound amplifier that he plans to study in detail in order to determine if it is possible to improve sound quality for deaf people using this type of amplifier.Marty Metro is an innovative researcher who is dedicated to finding new ways to improve the quality of life for deaf people. As a post-doctoral fellow at the University of Arizona and an instructor and research associate in the School of Hearing Sciences at the University of Arizona, Marty Metro has helped to improve the accessibility of hearing research for deaf people worldwide.
