Dean's education and experience in business-related areas:Dean Foust has a B.S. in Business Administration from the University of Georgia in 1985. He then earned his M.A. in Media Communications from the University of Georgia in 1989. From 1989 to 1995, Dean Foust had the opportunity to work as an Executive Communications leader for 23 years at BusinessWeek in Atlanta. In that time, he managed Executive Communications for UPS in Atlanta and created a corporate blog, Longitudes. In 2018, he won the International Cicero Speechwriting Award in the "Analyst Call/Investor Presentation" category for the 2017 UPS Investor Conference. From 2009 to 2018, he was also a Speaker at Conferences and Board Meetings across North America, and was also a member of the Talent Strategy Committee for UPS. Additionally, he was involved in the development of the first global trends report for UPS and produced the monthly Leadership Messaging Guide. He was also a Research and Writing Fellow at Georgetown’s GeorgetownPublicPolicyInstitute from January 2010 to December 2012. From 2007 to 2018, he was also an adjunct Journalism professor at Emory University.

Dean Foust has a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Journalism, Political Science. Dean Foust's Meals in the School of Journalism, his Jennifer Young Award-winning paper, "Rising Tide: The New Racial Changers", was published in the UNC Chapel Hill Journal of Journalism in 1983.Dean Foust has also completed graduate work with distinction at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, receiving the Jennifer Young Award for his work on "Rising Tide: The New Racial Changers" in 1983. After graduating from UNC Chapel Hill with his B.A. in 1983, Dean Foust accepted a position as an assistant professor at the University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill. In 1992, Dean Foust was appointed as the first African American Dean of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has served in that role ever since. In that position, Dean Foust has developed new teaching methods and methods of research for the School of Journalism. In addition, during his time as Dean of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dean Foust also served as the Chancellor of the University.As Dean of the School of Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dean Foust is responsible for the successful implementation of severalemerging technology initiatives and strategies. One such initiative is the "Text on the Street" program which also allows reporters from UNC-Chapel Hill and other UNC-affiliated campuses to carrylasting and significant news stories about the University through text messages. Across the UNC System, Text on the Street has been effective in shrinking the output of nimbyism articles and getting reporters to report on the University's many diverse initiatives. Another successful technology initiative of Dean Foust's at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill was the "Linking Menderes and Morgan" project which allowed reporters from local newscasts to quickly and easily connect Pell Grant recipients with talented career changers in the city of Charlotte. This project was a response to the scourge of budgetary cutbacks in the city of Chapel Hill. In short, while at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Dean Foust played a leading role in creating innovative and successful teaching methods and computer-assisted research programs that have helped his School of Journalism to emerge as one of the top Journalism schools in the country.

In my previous work experience, Dean Foust has created and performed UPS's first global trends report, produced speeches and media talking points for Accenture, assisted executives with Op-Eds published online by the Financial Times, Bloomberg BusinessWeek, and Forbes, Keyboard Skill, an executive social media program for UPS Management Committee, and became a confidential media trainer for senior-level executives of publicly traded companies and trade associations.
