I wanted to be a fireman when I was younger. Rushing towards danger to put yourself on the line to help others will always be something to aspire to. I never joined the fire service but I feel I take the mentality of a firefighter in to my working life - first priority is to put out the metaphorical fire.
That doesn't mean rushing headlong in but assessing the situation and providing a solution, you can then analyse and review the cause afterwards and put in prevention measures. So if you need someone who will keep a calm head, focus on what is relevant and get the job done then that's me.
To be able to 'get stuff done' I need to have the tools, just as the firefighters have their engines. And so my main motivation is to develop myself because my experience and skills are my tools. I continually display outstanding customer service, never stop studying to improve understanding and product knowledge, work to improve efficiency and always look out for ways to increase awareness of my business and sales.
Firefighters don't work alone and neither do I. Coaching and developing my teams is integral to success and also ensuring smooth operations going forward. Everyone needs to feel they are valued and are being developed, and that's how you retain the best people, and the right people ensure success.
