As the first marketing hire at Shopify Plus, I helped lay the foundation for the brand voice through the regular programming of the Shopify Plus blog. In this role, I lead a team of 10 contributors to write on a variety of subjects related to running high growth ecommerce stores.In addition to releasing the "run the business" style articles, I oversaw the release of over 150 case studies, with at least one being released every Friday. I was also the executive producer of a variety of multi-media assets, including video case studies and a series of 8 industry reports. Many of the strategies I set into motion are still in use today and have directly contributed to 9 figures in sales. From April 2015 to December 2017 (2 years 9 months) Editor-in-Chief @ ConversionXL At CXL the mandate was simple. "Don't publish bullshit." Of course, the execution of this was much harder. But then again, isn't that what it takes to build a best-in-class publication? In the early days of CXL, we approached each subject with intense scrutiny. We of course started with keyword research on high value phrases, but instead of trying to parrot the top performing pieces, we instead took a more scientific approach of constantly asking "Why?"The blog became an examination of conversation optimization through the lens of behavioral economics, neuroscience, psychology, copywriting and design all weaved together with comprehensible storytelling.It wasn't enough to throw statistics out there to sound smart. We told the stories behind those numbers and gave them life in a way that made sense. This approach lead to multiple number one rankings and high amounts of traffic. But it was so much more than that. It helped build the foundation for a community of thousands that now meet every year at the popular CXL conference. It was the base for what would become CXL academy, a well respected conversion optimization training and certification program. While I left shortly before the first major conference, I am proud to have been the first in a line of incredibly talented editors for one of the most respected names in conversation optimization.
