Nikki Ideta is a psychology graduate from the University of Hawai’i at Hilo. In her previous education, Nikki had a Master's degree from the National University of San Diego, teaching certification from the University of Hawaii at Hilo and a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology from the University of Hawaii at Hilo.Nikki is currently a substitute teacher in Hawai'i and has worked in this profession for over a decade. Nikki's experience and background are excellent for the position and she is eager to start her new job. Nikki is bitterly disappointed with the state of our education system where she feels that there is a lack of readiness for new teachers. In Nikki's experience, it is important to have a solid educational background in order to be a successful substitute teacher.Since she has been teaching substitute teaching, Nikki has had the opportunity to explore multiple classroom settings and to simulate the demands of an actual school day. She has found that she is better equipped to deal with difficult students and to remain focused on the job of teaching. Nikki has also found that working with students in small classrooms provides her with the unique opportunity to see and learn about the characters and the events that are taking place in the classroom.Since joining the substitute teaching profession, Nikki has learned that it is important to be patient and to maintain a positive attitude while working with students. She also knows that there is no one-size-fits-all answer to the question of whether or not a substitute teacher is ready for the job of a full-time teacher. However, Nikki's experience and background make her a candidate with the ability to take on the challenges of a substitution teaching career.
