From August 2008 to August 2009 (1 year 1 month) Research Consultant @ The Lewin Group While at The Lewin Group, I provided knowledge, quantitative and qualitative policy analysis, and technical assistance to a variety of stakeholders seeking to understand and implement health reform policies and regulations, including federal- and state-level agencies, industry coalitions, and private health plans. The research and consulting services that I provided spanned the following subject matter areas: health insurance exchanges, long-term care, children's health insurance, behavioral health, Medicaid (Managed Care), and Medicare (Advantage). Consulting services were provided in the following forms: program design and development; quantitative modeling (i.e. member movement: insurance market take-up and drop-out rates); cost-containment; quality improvement and measurement; program expansion readiness review; health information technology evaluation (systems integration and leveraging; and grant assistance/ program evaluation. From August 2010 to August 2011 (1 year 1 month) Graduate Associate @ United States Senate Finance Committee As a Graduate Associate on the Health Policy team within the Senate Finance Committee, I assisted with national-level health care reform efforts throughout the Senate Finance Committee Mark-Up and on the Senate Floor. I organized and summarized amendments and aided in the development of subsequent talking points in response to each amendment. I researched existing laws/ policies, summarized findings, and assisted in the development of revised or new legislative language within the following policy areas: Medicare Parts A and B, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, Comparative Effectiveness Research, Medical Device Industry, Private Health Insurance Industry, Pharmaceutical Industry, and Health Promotions Programs. From September 2009 to January 2010 (5 months) Senior Manager of Public Policy and Advocacy @ American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) As Sr. Manager of Advocacy & Public Policy at ASCP, I conduct detailed quantitative and qualitative analysis to translate complex public policy into practical clinical implications for ASCP’s 100,000 members, consisting of board certified pathologists, other physicians, clinical scientists, certified medical technologists and technicians, and educators. I proactively and routinely build upon my knowledge of the clinical, operational, and financial considerations underlying quality, efficient, and integrated health care service delivery via ongoing research, membership engagement, cross-specialty provider organization collaborations, and strategic discussions with on-the-ground subject matter experts. I conducted extensive public health research and communicated the latest advances in wellness programs nationwide. I organized and executed the health plan's onsite employer-sponsored insurance wellness fairs, analyzed health outcomes data, and engaged in cost/benefit analysis for varying employer-sponsored insurance packages based on findings. I also proactively developed and dispersed legislative and regulatory summaries to relevant subject-matter experts across UPMC and often drafted and submitted public comments to CMS on behalf of UPMC providers. Policy analysis primarily focused on the following: provider-level models of care, reimbursement, and pay-for-performance initiatives. Accordingly, I also served on UPMC's Meaningful Use Committee, where I provided regulatory updates and communicated the clinical, operational, and financial implications of CMS's policy to senior staff. From May 2012 to August 2013 (1 year 4 months) Senior Consultant @ Deloitte While at Deloitte, I aided a national health insurance payor throughout Medicaid managed care program performance evaluation, identifying and assessing the capabilities needed to enhance its delivery of care coordination to the high cost, high need Dual Eligible population. I conducted extensive research in support of a 50-state market opportunity and competitor assessment. Following in-depth analysis of findings, I then helped to develop the cost, coverage, expansion, and investment strategy needed to guide the payor throughout a $5 billion acquisition.
