Justin Kempton has gone from self-taught to being a self-taught movement hacker, software developer and artist.Justin Kempton started his artistic career as a self-taught movement hacker in 2005 as a part of the group "The Fluxus Orchestra".outing of college to pursue his career in the moebius movement. Justin Kempton became quickly interested in moebius and started to explore ways to create AI engines with the help of a computer program. With the help of a friend, he was able to create an AI engine that could create images of moving puppets. Justin Kempton was interested in the potential of AI and saw the potential for it to create advanced robotics and artificial intelligence. He started to explore this potential further and began to develop his own AI engine, which he named Moebius.Moebius was very quickly adopted by the "The Fluxus Orchestra" and used in a number of improvised workshops, including an installation at the Cleveland Art Museum in 2007. From 2007 to 2009, Justin Kempton was an associate professor of software development at the School of Software Technology at The Ohio State University. There, he taught advanced programing under the title of "Soft Robotics – exploring the synthetic legibility of robotic limbs." While at OSU, he also founded the collective Fluxus IX, a group of artist and software developers interested in exploring the potential of artificial intelligence and art. While in Ohio State, Justin Kempton met his wife and current wife, Micheala, who was then working as a programmer for the Xerox Corporation. Micheala encouraged Justin to pursue his career in painting and taught him the importance of color and composition in painting. Justin Kempton then decided to move to New York City in order to pursue his career in painting and make a living. Micheala stayed in New York City to help support their family.In October of 2016, Justin Kempton was selected as the recipient of the prestigious New Media Arts Prize from the New Media Foundation in New York City. The prize is given out every year to a new and innovative artist in the New Media Arts field.
