He has a degree in Political Science from the University of Southern California and a degree in Business Administration from UCLA.He began his academic career at UCLA in 2001 as the dean of the International Institute, where he directed the deanship’s program in international relations. He also taught in the Political Science department from 1997 to 2001.After his time at UCLA, he moved to Yale, where he taught from 2001 to 2005. He then moved to the Wharton School at Philadelphia University as the associate professor of political science before moving back to UCLA as the professor of political science in 2001.From 2005 to 2008, he was the president at Pacific Council on International Policy, where he was in charge of the American Studies Council and the European Studies Council. He also served as the organizer of the America-Europe-Asian Studies Summit in 2007.In February 2013, he was appointed Dean of the Business School at the University of Sydney, where he served until June 2014. He also has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Nottingham in England from March to September 2014, and at the University of British Columbia in Canada from October to December 2014.He is also a professor at the University of Rome “La Sapienza” where he has taught management and economics since 2006. In July 2018, he was offered the position of professor of political science at the City University of New York (CUNY). He will become the 4th dean at the newly founded United States Studies Centre at the University of Sydney, having been appointed in 2008.He is a member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand Academy of Sciences and Letters and the United States Academy of Arts and Sciences.
