Re-assigned by the ThyssenKrupp Technology Board to take over the ThyssenKrupp Crankshaft activities by implementing change management and developing a business culture and standards as they witnessed the capabilities at ThyssenKrupp Presta over the last 10+ years. Accountable for meeting financial targets and profitable business growth, reporting to the Chairman of the Board in Brazil. Managed a staff of eight direct reports and four plant facilities with a total of over 800 employees. From June 2006 to October 2007 (1 year 5 months) President & CEO @ A tier 1 automotive supplier and world leader in producing light weight assembled and ready to install camshafts serving the key OEM's as sole supplier.
Full P&L responsibility of the company and its 3 business units set up as individual profit centers. Directed a cross-functional management team consisting of: Safety, Health and Environment; Operations; Engineering; Quality; Accounting & Finance; Human Resources; Information Technology, as well as offsite Sales and Marketing departments.
Key Achievements:
• Successfully led and managed the company from a green field start up operation to a successful + $ 120 million organization and a staff of +300 including the recruitment and development of the entire workforce from the first employee onwards to run a highly automated manufacturing facility to the ThyssenKrupp - Presta standards worldwide.
• Successfully launched three different business units within the organization during the first 5 years of operation including: cold forgings, steering shaft – and camshaft assemblies; totaling over 10 different product launches, including 3 plant expansions. Successfully aligned and interfaced two cultures by maintaining a pro –employee (union free) environment since the start up of the operation in 1994.
• Overviewed and supported the start up of the newly founded J.V. facility of Systrand Presta Engine Systems (minority owned company) located on the same premises.
• Implemented all business systems and tools necessary as expected from our customers and shareholders, to run a successful business serving the automotive industry. Lean manufacturing with focus on the foundation of: Safety, 5 S, teamwork and TPM as a baseline for success and sustainability.
• Initiated the activities with ThyssenKrupp Materials to build an on-site warehouse to streamline the supply chain and JIT serving the production lines of ThyssenKrupp Presta and Systrand Presta Engine Systems and its customer demand. From June 1993 to June 2006 (13 years 1 month) Product Manager & Operations Manager - Cold Forging @ Full P& L responsibility for the profit center and its market segment “Lateral Extrusion / Universal Joints” (patented process) in the cold forging department. Direct reports included: Operations, Engineering, as well as Sales & Marketing
• Assigned by the board to focus on US market development by utilizing my language skills and US market knowledge which led to a multi million dollar long term contract with Dana Corporation. The first major contract for the company outside Europe.
• Approached management board to establish a manufacturing site in the US to assure the long-term market position, with the successful outcome of starting up the Danville operation. The first manufacturing site outside Europe at that time. From January 1990 to June 1993 (3 years 6 months)
