Thienus Coetzee

Thienus Coetzee currently serves as the Group Internal Audit Manager at AngloGold Ashanti, where he has been instrumental in shaping the internal audit landscape since 2005. With a robust academic foundation, including a BCompt (Hons) and certifications as a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) and Certification in Control Self-Assessment (CCSA), Thienus brings a wealth of expertise to his role. His extensive experience spans over two decades, having previously held senior managerial positions within the internal audit function at AngloGold Ashanti and reputable firms such as PwC, Deloitte, and Liberty Life.

In his current role, Thienus leads a large, multinational internal audit team, focusing on enhancing risk management practices and ensuring compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and US GAAP. His leadership is pivotal in driving combined assurance initiatives, which integrate various assurance providers to optimize risk management and improve business processes across the organization. Thienus is also actively involved in key projects aimed at financial accounting improvements and consolidations, ensuring that the company adheres to the highest standards of governance and accountability.
