Pia Thauer currently serves as the Technical Officer for Innovation and New Markets at the Deutsche Raumfahrtagentur im DLR, where she plays a pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of space technology applications for sustainable development on Earth. Her expertise lies at the intersection of space innovation, sustainability, and technology transfer, with a particular focus on leveraging space-derived data and solutions to address pressing challenges in agriculture and environmental management. In her role, Pia leads strategic initiatives aimed at fostering cross-sector partnerships between the space industry and terrestrial sectors, facilitating the transfer of cutting-edge technologies to create tangible societal benefits.

One of her key projects is the leadership of the INNOspace Network Space2Agriculture, an interdisciplinary innovation network designed to catalyze collaborations between space technologists, agricultural experts, and industry stakeholders in Germany. This project emphasizes the development of innovative solutions for sustainable agriculture, utilizing satellite data, remote sensing, and data analytics to optimize resource use and enhance crop resilience. Additionally, Pia spearheads the Space Innovation Hub, a flagship initiative aligned with the German Federal Government’s space strategy from 2023, which aims to accelerate the commercialization of space-based innovations and foster a vibrant ecosystem for startups and established companies alike.
