Jo Horrigan

Jo Horrigan currently serves as the Enhanced Housing Placement Assistance Specialist at Big Bend Cares, where she plays a pivotal role in connecting vulnerable populations to stable and supportive housing solutions. In this capacity, Jo manages the follow-up process for referrals to the SURE (Supportive Rehousing) Program, focusing on clients living with HIV/AIDS who have criminal justice backgrounds and are experiencing homelessness or unstable housing situations. Her responsibilities include conducting comprehensive intake interviews and assessments to establish baseline needs, coordinating closely with housing case managers to develop individualized housing plans, and performing ongoing follow-up to monitor progress and address emerging challenges.

Jo’s expertise in case management, crisis intervention, and psychological assessment equips her to navigate complex situations with sensitivity and professionalism. Her background in working with diverse populations—including individuals with severe mental health issues, disabilities, and members of the LGBT community—allows her to approach each case with a strengths-based perspective that emphasizes resilience and empowerment. Her skills in medication management, risk assessment, and support counseling are critical in ensuring clients receive holistic care that addresses both their housing and health needs.

Currently pursuing her MSW at Florida State University, Jo is committed to expanding her knowledge in trauma-informed care and supportive housing strategies. Her goal is to deepen her understanding of social determinants of health and enhance her ability to advocate for equitable access to housing and healthcare services. Through her work at Big Bend Cares, Jo continues to demonstrate a strong dedication to improving client outcomes and fostering sustainable, supportive housing environments for some of the most vulnerable members of her community.
