History of the Indiana DAR The history of Indiana DAR began in 1891 when Lucia E. A. Blount (Mrs. Henry Fitch) was appointed State Regent. After her resignation, President General Caroline Scott Harrison appointed Harriett McIntire Foster (Mrs. Chapin C.) Organizing Regent for Indiana on October 20, 1892. Later elected State Regent in 1894 and serving until 1898, Mrs. Foster helped to organize the first two Indiana chapters. Caroline Scott Harrison Chapter, named in honor of the first President General, who was a personal friend to Mrs. Foster, was organized in Indianapolis on February 21, 1894, followed by General de Lafayette in Lafayette on April 21, 1894. Today, Indiana's 86 chapters continue to promote the objectives of the Society with project and program emphasis on education, historic preservation, and patriotic observances, as well as the promotion of a strong national defense.
