About OpenAPI Initiative

The OpenAPI Initiative is an open governance structure under the Linux Foundation that facilitates the development of the OpenAPI Specification. The OpenAPI Initiative (OAI) was created by a consortium of forward-looking industry experts who recognize the immense value of standardizing on how REST APIs are described. As an open governance structure under the Linux Foundation, the OAI is focused on creating, evolving and promoting a vendor neutral description format. SmartBear Software donated the Swagger Specification directly to the OAI as the basis of this Open Specification.

The OpenAPI Initiative is composed of:

i. corporate members (OAI Members) that have executed an OAI Membership Agreement to sponsor the activities of the OAI Community

ii. a Business Governance Board (BGB);

iii. ii. an open source, Technical Steering Committee (“TSC”), which oversees the evolution of the specification and invites participation from members of the developer community; and

iv. a Technical Oversight Board (“TOB”).

There are currently more than 30 member companies. You can see them on the Membership / Current Members section of our web site.
