The agency was founded in 1877 when James Walter Thompson purchased the company for US$ 500 and began by selling advertising space in magazines. He gradually started developing the content for advertisers and employed writers and artists for the purpose. The agency was eventually sold to Stanley B. Resor in 1916 for US$500,000. The company is currently owned by the WPP Group. JWT’s key clients include HSBC, Ford, Nestle, Rolex, Unilever, Shell and several other large corporations. The agency is present in over 90 countries and maintains its headquarters at New York City.
