The Complexity Institute, headquartered in Chiavari, Italy, is a pioneering association founded in 2010 with the mission to promote complex thinking and ethical behavior. By fostering a deeper understanding of the intricate contexts in which individuals and organizations operate, the Institute empowers them to become active participants and co-creators in their environments. The organization boasts a distinguished Scientific Committee, featuring renowned scholars and experts in complex systems, including Edgar Morin, a leading philosopher of complexity; Pier Luigi Luisi, an esteemed professor at ETH Zurich; and Alberto Felice De Toni, former rector of the University of Udine and president of the CRUI Foundation. The current president, Marinella De Simone, alongside vice president Dario Simoncini, leads the Institute in its various initiatives.
Over the years, the Complexity Institute has organized significant events such as the Complexity Management Summer School and Winter Lab, which ran from 2013 to 2018, attracting educators, experts, and professionals from across Italy to explore the application of complexity in organizational contexts. Annually since 2014, it has hosted the Complexity Literacy Meeting, a three-day national event showcasing books through a complex lens. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Institute swiftly adapted by publishing an instant e-book titled "La complessità di una pandemia," which garnered over 3,000 downloads shortly after its release. Furthermore, it conducted a series of web-meetings addressing future complexities, engaging over 5,000 participants. Currently, the Institute is running a series of web-meetings titled "Complessità in azione – 8 leve per cambiare il mondo," inspired by the Global Enaction principles. For those interested in the expertise behind these initiatives, the Complexity Institute teachers list includes many prominent figures in the field of complex systems.
