Caritas Anchor House

Caritas Anchor House is based in London's East End in Canning Town, just a few miles from the Olympic site, Canary Wharf, the O2 Dome and London City Airport, but it has historically been an area blighted by under-development and extreme poverty. We started life as a seamen's hostel in the 1960s. When the London docks were shut down the organisations began to transform itself from a seedy, rundown hostel to a nationally acclaimed residential and life skills centre, providing accommodation for over 230 single homeless people every year. In 2014, we achieved the following outcomes: - 63 residents gained employment - 71 residents moved out of Caritas Anchor House into independent living - 4,964 volunteering opportunities were taken up by residents - 88% of residents were engaging in education, volunteering, training or employment - Our occupancy rate was 99.2%
