Professor Xinghuo Yu is the Founding Director of the Platform Technologies Research Institute of RMIT University (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology), Melbourne, Australia. Under his leadership, the Institute has become the best performing research institute in RMIT. He has extensive university management experience in roles such as Associate Dean, Institute Director, and Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research & Innovation) of RMIT University. Professor Yu has worked extensively with industry in areas of energy, security, resource management, manufacturing and transport. He was on the Board of Governors of the Australian Photonics Cooperative Research Centre (CRC) (2003-2006) and on the Science Advisory Committee of the Advanced Manufacturing CRC (2008-2013). Professor Yu has published over 500 research papers in control engineering, complex and intelligent systems and applications, and smart grids. He received a number of awards and honors for his contributions, including 2013 Dr.-Ing. Eugene Mittelmann Achievement Award of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society and 2012 IEEE Industrial Electronics Magazine Best Paper Award. Professor Yu has been named a Highly Cited Researcher by Thomson Reuters in 2015, which puts him among about three thousand researchers in the world who received this notable and prestigious distinction, representing the top 1% most cited for their subject fields and year of publication. Professor Yu has also been very active in professional services. He is President-Elect (2016-2017) of IEEE Industrial Electronics Society. He chaired many conferences including the very successful IECON 2011 in Melbourne, Australia as General Chair.
