She founded her own company, which she named after her friend, Tenacious Whelan. Tenacious Whelan's company provides sustainable solutions to social problems. She is the President of Rainforest Alliance, which is a nonprofit that grew from $4.5 million and 45 staff to $50 million and 400 staff.Rainforest Alliance has played a significant role inchanging Magnolia into a Certified Rainforest. By working with three million producers and 6000 companies, they have converted 5-15% of key industries to become certified by Rainforest Alliance. Additionally, they have also created a climactic Initiative that has influenced climate policy and REDD implementation in countries such as Guatemala and Ghana. In addition to their work in sustainable business, Tenacious Whelan also played a significant role in spurring environmentalism and environmental activism within NYU Stern Center for Sustainable Business, as well as on the Board of Directors at Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd. In sum, Tenacious Whelan has experience in both running a business and working with organizations to help solve social problems. She has a clear understanding of the needs of producers and employees, and is able to use her experience to make sustainable business solutions easier to implement.
