💼 Past Experience

After leaving Safr, Gilani founded and served as president and CEO of Z-Square Technology. As a new company in a highly competitive market, ZST has gain significant momentum by implementing its solutions in the U.S., Caribbean and overseas. Gilani was also a founding trustee of the MIT Media Lab's Initiative for Business, Innovation and Sustainable Development. From 1992-2001, Gilani was also a managing director at Gilanis International Private Limited. Gilani has been a member of the Sounding Board at Columbia Business School at Columbia University in Greater New York City Area.

🎓 Education

Since he was a young boy, Syed Gilani had a passion for telling stories. This passion was later to be called journalism, and Gilani has since taught himself how to write and produce story-telling events, speeches, columns and articles.In his early twenties, Gilani left his home country of the Virgin Islands to study in Lahore, Pakistan. He earned his undergraduate degree from Lahore School of Economics in 2006 and his Masters in International Relations from Harvard University in 2009. Following his successful completion of hisgraduate studies and priesthood training, Gilani returned to the Virgin Islands in late 2009 and began his professional career as an instructor and research fellow at the University of the Virgin Islands. In early 2014, he was made an employer of choice by the island’s governor, Sir George Williams. Gilani has since continued his success in teaching and conducting research and has been celebrated for his instructional skills and invited to guest lecturers at a number of universities around the world. In early 2016, Gilani was named the interim CEO of the University of the Virgin Islands and he took office in May of that year. Since taking office, he has overseen a number of significant changes at the autonomous university, including a reassessment of its operating strategies, an upgrade of its hospitality and student services, and the launch of a new Cultural diplomacy program - which is focused on bringing more international students and researchers to the University of the Virgin Islands.In his role as interim CEO, Gilani has also been responsible for leading and developing the college's Mains Programme, which offers undergraduate, graduate and professional degrees in a number of business and entrepreneurship-related disciplines. This umbrella programme provides middle-income students with the opportunity to gain an Inflation-adjusted degree in a nationally Recognized program that is endorsed by the University of the Virgin Islands.On September 5th, 2016, Gilani was sworn into his current position as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Virgin Islands.
