📖 Summary
Software is eating the world. If you understand it and invest in it you have a tremendous agent of change. I am a software developer at heart but I have switched into management a few years ago because I see that the way we normally run software engineering is not leveraging the potential of the people nor the potentials inherent in software development. I have been a part of trying to transform Telenor into more like a technology company (Comoyo) and I am bringing the lessons from that into my current job which is in Schibsted where I lead the data team. I have a deep interest in software design, performance and scalability, but if we just start with doing the simplest things that could possibly work first, and then learn and improve from there, we get a lot further faster and we can apply the advanced stuff when it is appropriate. I believe ... ... that the problem comes before the solution, not vice versa. ... in informed, empowered and autonomous teams. ... all software systems can be made simple, performant, highly available and easily modifiable. ... the people is the software is the people, and that 'throwing things over the wall' leads to stagnation. ... in transparency. ... that running code beats powerpoint. ... that companies should invest in product management as it exists in silicon valley as opposed to having project managers or product owners. Almost no companies in Norway know what Product Management really means and how to hire and grow people into that role. ... developing software is about humility, respect and trust. It is easy to forget that when trying to debug a corruption in the data.Engineering Manager @ From February 2015 to Present (11 months) Oslo Area, NorwayVP Engineering @ From September 2013 to August 2014 (1 year) Oslo Area, NorwayUber Tech Lead @ From October 2012 to September 2013 (1 year) Oslo Area, NorwaySoftware Engineer @ From August 2006 to August 2012 (6 years 1 month) Summer job @ From May 2004 to August 2004 (4 months) Summer Internship @ From June 2003 to July 2003 (2 months)
