I re-joined SAP to start a new business unit to serve as an engine for organic growth. Our model employs a venture capital-based process coupled with an accelerator model to invest in internal ventures. As part of the .iO leadership team, I set up the studio, built out a world class team, and invested capital and “sweat equity” in the success of our ventures. As part of the .iO leadership team, my primary role has been to establish and grow a central engineering organization that provides our ventures with engineering expertise in all aspects (front end, back end, DevOps, security, release process, resource planning, hiring, etc.). Expanding from one engineer - me - to a team of 50 across 7 ventures in 4 locations globally, I have a successful track record of both writing and shipping production code, while building engineering organizations that deliver at scale.

📖 Summary
Co-Founder / Vice President / Head Of Engineering @ SAP.iO I re-joined SAP to start a new business unit to serve as an engine for organic growth. San Francisco Bay AreaPrincipal Architect, Predix Platform Leadership @ GE Digital I joined GE’s Executive Leadership program to turn the then-conceptual ‘Industrial Internet of Things’ into a reality. The thinking was simple: It’s easier to add software knowledge to a thing company than it is to add thing knowledge to a software company.Chief of Staff, Executive Director of Predix Engineering (2015)Defined the technology strategy and architecture for GE's major pivot to the cloud, including adoption of agile and develops methodologies. The latter of which proved to be the most challenging, but with a thoughtful approach to process and change management we were able to navigate the difficult cultural transformation from shipping software to running it.Drove internal and external technical evangelism of the Predix platform, including analyst briefings with leading firms, executive customer presentations, a reference architecture white paper, online videos, conferences, hackathons, and more.Established an Open Source program office, including strategy development, governance process, and execution guidelines.Chief of Staff, Predix Architecture Office (2016)Defined the long term vision for the Predix platform. Managed a portfolio of investments in key technology areas to accelerate the delivery of that vision. Researched advanced capabilities and delivered running code by building, partnering, or leveraging open source to create the appropriate accelerator, from Proof of Concept, to Minimum Viable Product, to Commercial Success. From November 2014 to September 2016 (1 year 11 months) San Ramon, CAOpen Technology Strategy, Office of the CTO @ SAP Responsible for defining and executing SAP's intellectual property strategy, including our engagement in industry standards, open source, and public policy efforts related to cloud computing (including, for example, SAP’s leadership in OpenStack and Cloud Foundry). Given the depth and breadth of cloud stakeholders across SAP, I was responsible for articulating a common vision internally and advancing that position externally in the community.Represented SAP’s interests in key initiatives like establishing the Cloud Foundary foundation, the Java Executive Committee, and the Eclipse Foundation. From August 2011 to October 2014 (3 years 3 months) Palo Alto, CAFellow / Team Captain - Disruptive Innovation @ SAP Invited by SAP Americas GM and SAP CTO to lead a hand-picked group of executives to define a business unit to drive organic innovation for SAP. From July 2012 to January 2013 (7 months) Palo Alto, CATechnology Strategy, Office of the CTO @ SAP Co-led a team of senior architects to look at the broad challenges SAP would face and defined a forward-looking, requirements-based technology platform recommendation to position SAP well over a 10-year period.Responsible for developing and executing strategies for engaging technical and business standards consortia and open source initiatives to further SAP's Global Ecosystem and Platform strategy. Worked collaboratively with (and competitively against) industry leaders to shape the emerging competitive landscape From October 2004 to August 2011 (6 years 11 months) Palo Alto, CATechnical Lead @ SAP Led the design and implementation of a fully featured, protocol agnostic, enterprise class Java XML Messaging System and the SAP Adapter Framework. From January 2002 to October 2004 (2 years 10 months) GermanySenior Developer, SAP Markets @ SAP Created a framework for integrating third-party services into SAPMarkets — SAP’s first foray into an online approach to delivering enterprise software. From June 2000 to December 2001 (1 year 7 months) Palo AltoResearch Engineer @ Polytopic Corporation Collaborated with the University of Iowa on a joint educational software development project. From October 1999 to June 2000 (9 months) Cedar Rapids, Iowa AreaSoftware Engineer @ Breakthrough to Literacy Wrote software generation tools to rapidly advance the re-design of an educational software package that aids in teaching children to read.
