From 1996 to 1997 (1 year) Systems Engineer @ AT&T New Media Services/Interchange Online Network • Served as a principal architect in the company's transition from a proprietary online service to a WWW-based product. Developed Perl, SQL, NSAPI, Java, JavaScript, Cold Fusion and C++ WWW applications, on Windows NT 3.51 and Solaris 2.4, using Informix, mSQL, Progress, and Oracle databases. From 1995 to 1996 (1 year) President @ Sarnet Media Productions • Founder of an independent Internet, hypertext and multimedia consulting firm, with clients including a multimedia firm, an educational research group, the Massachusetts Department of Education, and The Computer Museum. Services included interface design, kiosk development, Internet consulting, and Internet programming, including SLIP/PPP connectivity, Windows TCP/IP, MacTCP, Digital UNIX systems administration, NNTP (NetNews) server administration, Perl CGI scripting, and HTML design/development. Led Scrum team for several releases and mentored other engineers.Working closely with product management, led specification of feature enabling groups and entitlement that enabled additional sales of the product.Debugged and fixed numerous complex and severe production issues with legacy Spring/Java/Hibernate code, resolving critical concurrency, deadlocking and transactional problems. The fixes greatly increased the product's reliability and availability, and allowed the development team to be productive, stopping frequent interruptions by support issues that were causing downtime.Upgraded legacy code to current dependencies and a clean, layered structure to enable the development team to understand the code, and specified microservice architecture for additional productivity. Working with build engineering, enabled code scanning by Coverity and Sonar to identify source code issues.
