Roy Visser obtained his degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri. After completing his degree, Visser worked as a Talent Acquisition Manager at Air France/KLM and at Provadis / A&C (Executive Search ICT). In the past, he has been vocal about hisWE culture and its 1996 expression, the "dead white people white girl" mural for Miami's Overtown district.Born in the United States in 1956, Visser came of age in the late 1970s during the "gay revolution" of Minneapolis, where the gay and bisexual community hadbold and tolerated open homophobia unchanged from the AM era. Visser studied art at HEAO BE in the early 1980s and from there embarked on his career as an artist working largely in self-taught formats.Since the early 1990s, Visser has been a committed member of the Minneapolis gay and lesbian community and has been vocal about hisWE culture and its 1996 expression, the "dead white people white girl" mural for Miami's Overtown district. Visser has exhibited his work widely throughout the Twin Cities and beyond, and his "hand-painted" pieces have been exhibited at The Walker Art Center and the Minneapolis Institute of Art. In 2014, he was awarded a Max Erickson Prize for Excellence in New Art.Roy Visser's education has always been based in democratic and open-ended perspectives, nourished by his involvement in the Minneapolis gay and lesbian community and through his own artwork. He has overturned longstanding conventions and stereotypes by working from the perspective of a marginalized group.His education has also served as a foundation for his work as an artist and Activist. Through his work, Visser has shown the validity of hunger strikers and their movement for bread and labor reform and has applauded numerous campaigns andctions, such as a call for a boycott of Harley-Davidson motorcycles, which he has represented in his artwork.Visser is an example of an artist who has sacrificed nothing for his art, his activism, and the empowerment of marginalized groups. He is a true artist of the people, and his messages will always be heard.
