Roger Royse was born in 1979, son of a schoolteacher and a small business owner. After a dreams-filled childhood, Royse studied accounting and law at New York University School of Law, where he earned his LLM in 1990. After colleging at The University of North Dakota, he practiced law in 1984 at the firm of Republican National Committee.Royse's professional experience and education has prepared him well for his current role as a lobbyist and commissioner with the Office of the US Commissioner of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (OMICE). Royse has provided expertise on a wide range of immigration-related issues, including public interest litigation, rule-making, and policy.Royse's education and experience have also played a role in his current work with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). He has served as a law clerk to Judge Morin of the US District Court for the District of Columbia, and as a Legal Fellow at the National Immigration Law Center. Royse is also a member of the board of directors for the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA).Royse's nomination for a position in the Department of Homeland Security was first brought to the attention of the general public by the Committee on Homeland Security of the US House of Representatives in early 2009.
