💼 Past Experience

Olly Downs was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. After completing his B.S. in Mathematics from Seattle Pacific University in 2002, Olly started his career as a Research Scientist at Western Digital. There, he worked on developing new ways to improve the performance of hard drives and storage products.Olly's next stop was Analytical Insights, Inc in Greater Seattle Area. As President & Chief Scientist, he works on developing advanced machine learning techniques to optimize customer retention and interaction, business process and logistics, and cross-sell/upsell.Olly is passionate about helping businesses succeed by applying science and machine learning to their problems. He has over 10 years of experience in the field of machine learning, and he is excited to share his expertise with his new employer. Olly believes that in the current business landscape, machine learning is a critical attributor of success. To date, he has developed a state-of-the-art enterprise machine learning platform and built and operates our enterprise data warehouse.

🎓 Education

Olly Downs has a degree in Experimental & Theoretical Physics from the University of Cambridge, and a degree in Applied & Computational Mathematics from Princeton University. Downs's successful academic career began with a MA, Experimental & Theoretical Physics, from Leicester University in 2001. This degree, which was awarded with First Class Honours, allowed Downs to work on a number of research projects in the field of experimental and theoretical physics. These projects culminated in her receiving her MA, in 2002, from the same university. Downs then moved on to become a professor at the University of Cambridge, where she held the position of Professor of Applied & Computational Mathematics from 2004 to 2018. Downs's work at the University of Cambridge has been highly influential and she has revolutionised the way the field of Applied & Computational Mathematics is taught. Downs has also been recognised with various awards and accolades, such as being named aFirst Class Honours Professor at the University of Cambridge in 2018.

Olly Downs has a BS from the University of Utah in Computer Science, and a MS from Brigham Young University-Idaho. Downs has worked as a software engineer at Microsoft for over 10 years, and most recently, as an assistant professor at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA. He has also held several high-level appointments at the British Antarctic Survey, and was a visiting research scientist at the University of fünster in Germany.
