🎓 Education

Joe Dupont spent his early years growing up in Worcester, MA. After graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a BS in biochemistry in 1998, Dupont began his academic journey at the University of California, Berkeley. Dupont completed his degree in 2001 and returned to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute, where he taught for three years until his promotional decision was made to pursue a career in research.While at the University of California, Berkeley, Dupont also attended the Graduate School of Public Health and earned his PhD in epidemiology from the university in 2006. After earning his PhD and completing his five year research project at the University of California, Berkeley, Dupont returned to the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and has been teaching there since.In his research career, Dupont has focused primarily on the study of foodborne illness and its prevention. During his time at the University of California, Berkeley, Dupont developed a method of measuring the metabolic rate of wild crops in order to better understand the virus implicated in food borne illness. He also developed a technique for visualization of smeared Contaminated surfaces using a light microscope. Dupont's research also focused on the study of how to optimize spoilage control within food production. Dupont's efforts in this field have resulted in the development of new algorithms and methods for the detection and prediction of spoilage.Joe Dupont is a highly research-oriented individual and has a propensity for seeking help when needed. Dupont has a wide range of experience in both teaching and research. He has had great success in his previous appointment at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute and is well known within the community. Dupont has a demonstrated ability to develop creative solutions to problems and is highly collaborative. When it comes to his research, Dupont is willing to take on multiple projects at once in order to fully understand the work that needs to be done in order to achieve a desired outcome.
