With annual revenues of > $200M, JDRF maintains a portfolio of >$500M of discovery and development research projects. JDRF serves as the voice of the T1D community aggressively advocating for regulatory and health policies that reduce barriers to innovation and patient access.
• Led multi-year organizational transformation across core functions of fundraising, advocacy & research
• Recruited a strong senior management team
• Developed a research strategic plan outlining the overall timeline for achieving research goals, as well as 5, 10 and 15 year plans w/ milestones for all key programs
• Broadened advocacy function from traditional competency of congressional advocacy to include capacity for regulatory, reimbursement and health policy activities
• Restructured US field fundraising operations, consisting of over 80 field offices, into 11 balanced regions, each with regional leadership responsible for their P&L
• Implemented organization wide incentive compensation system tied to annual performance goals
• Rebuilt the marketing and communications functions. Led a rebranding. Spearheaded development of marketing and communications portfolio to provide staff and volunteers with effective messaging to more clearly communicate JDRF mission and progress
• Established new processes for the International Board of Directors to professionalize governance and transition the group from an operating to a governing board
• Led revitalization of the largest revenue program, JDRF One Walk, with new messaging, marketing and communication materials, improved website, standardized and inspiring event day activities, strategic approach to fundraising and retaining highest-value donors as well as year-round efforts to recruit and steward volunteers in order to build stronger connections with JDRF From June 2010 to July 2014 (4 years 2 months) New York CityChairman @ KickStart is an award winning non-profit organization providing poverty stricken populations, primarily in Africa, with a revolutionary approach to becoming self-sufficient. By designing, marketing and implementing simple income producing tools to be used by motivated entrepreneurs, KickStart works to create profitable and sustainable businesses within communities.
• Grew revenues during term as Chairman from $1.3 million to over $7 million in 6 years, primarily through energized fundraising efforts, including million dollar, multi-year commitments from organizations including the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, John Deere Foundation and wealthy individuals in the US and abroad
• Developed and implemented revised 5-year strategic plan in collaboration with founders with specific goals for upgrading capacity, scaling operations and expanding into new countries
• Succeeded in enabling 100,000 people each year to escape poverty through sustainable business ventures From 2003 to 2010 (7 years) San Francisco Bay AreaFounder & Chief Executive Officer @ Overture Services (previously GoTo.com) was the first pay-for-placement and pay-for-click search advertising system that set the standard for the current model of search engine advertising. The model monetized searches for major internet providers and search engines such as AOL, Yahoo! and MSN. GoTo.com was listed on NASDAQ in 1999 and was later purchased by Yahoo! Within 10 years, Goto.com became a $10 billion business.
• Founded, grew and led groundbreaking internet-based company that invented pay-for-placement search advertising.
• Raised $40 million in 3 rounds of private financing. Led IPO and follow-on offerings raising over $250 million in public markets.
• Oversaw development and patenting of revolutionary self-service account management system that supported relationships with over 30,000 paying advertisers within 18 months. From February 1998 to March 2001 (3 years 2 months) Pasadena, CAFounder & CTO, Vice President of Development @ CitySearch was the first online city guide, marrying a consumer content offering consisting of arts & entertainment listings with the revenue engine of an online yellow pages for local businesses of any size. The company merged with Ticketmaster Online in September 1998 and went public later that year. CitySearch is now an operating business of Interactive Corp.
• Oversaw development of content management software tools supporting the cost effective volume creation of highly relevant local content and advertising.
• Expanded coverage to 20 cities and employee base to over 500 within 3 years of operations.
• Partnered with major local and international media companies to increase market exposure, build advertising base and establish local editorial and sales presence.
