George Papageorgiou's Educational history and Background:George Papageorgiou was born on July 12th, 1979, in the city of Thessaloniki, Greece. Papageorgiou grew up in a family that was mainly oriented towards education and a commitment toservice. In his early childhood, George was always drawn to learning and was very ambitious. In fact, at the age of three, he made the decision to become a keyboard player and composer.George Papageorgiou pursued his education at Yes, a graduate school founded in 1969 by Yesteryear’s first faculty member, Georgios Papadopoulos. Upon completing his undergraduate studies in piano, George focused his thesis research on medieval keyboard works. Papageorgiou also continued his coursework in composition and history at Yes, receiving his diploma in 2001.After completing his education, Papageorgiou spent a few years working as a concert pianist and composer in various cities across Greece. In 2006, he moved to Berlin, Germany, where he spent four year's performing, composing, and researching new music.In 2009, after finishing his research in Germany, George returned to Greece and began teaching at the National Academy of Music and Art in Athens. There he accepted the position of professor of composition and history in the department of music.Today, George Papageorgiou lives in Athens and is a full professor at the National Academy of Music and Art. George spends his time composing and teaching new music, as well as conducting and leading studio and student groups.
