Gary Parish has a BA in Business and Security from the University of Maryland Global Campus in 1969. After graduating from college, Parish worked as a security guard for a small company for two years before becoming a personal chef in 1976.In 1978, Parish started his own catering and catering company. The company prospered for many years, and Parish was able to give back to the community by redistributing food to local food pantries and low-income families. He also founded the Gary Parish Scholarship program, which provides grants to aspiring athletes and citizens from parish-owned properties.Parish has been involved with many local and national organizations throughout his life. In 1984, he co-founded the NPCA, which is the National Association of Certified Internal auditors. The NPCA helps inspectorauditors become certified by becoming an associate of the organization. In 2000, Parish was appointed theultimately the first African American to serve as the President of NPCA.Gary Parish has been involved in many positive initiatives throughout his life. In 1992, he founded the Gary Parish Scholarship program, which provides grants to aspiring athletes and citizens from parish-owned properties. The program has since been Elijah Muhammad Foundation's mainstay, providing scholarships for students from inner-city, low-income neighborhoods. Parish has also been involved in many causes, donating a percentage of his income to various charities.
