The new fire main system is being designed as a ring main supplied at each of the 2 portals and the 2 ventilating stations , we installed 3,500m of stainless steel 8" water main pipe from Wallasey to Liverpool ) BAE Warton Hanger Works (This was a 500K value project on behalf of BAE Systems . The work comprised of the installation of a new foam injection system which provided sufficient protection for all Typhoon Aircrafts in Hangars 1-5 in the event of any fires , I acted as an Assistant Project Manager on this project, liaising with Clients (BAE) on a daily basis. This was a “turn-key” project using one subcontractor to do 90% of the works with Compco completing the initial connection and commissioning of the system!) This project will go down in history as one of the most complicated and expensive PFI schemes ever! The £480m scheme involved rebuilding five big hospitals on a 44 acre site in the centre of Manchester. This made it the biggest single stage, lump sum design and build projects in the world. The whole scheme consisted of 6800 rooms. To understand the size of this project, it took an individual an entire day to “eyeball” each of the 2500 rooms in just one of the hospitals!)
