💼 Past Experience
I’ve been doing contracting work in the field of Grant Writing for the last few years. I think it would be a good idea to start giving back to my community by writing grants for local organizations. I’ve found that the experience of writing grants and coordinating fundraising campaigns are very complementary and help me become better at both.I came to Alex Dunn from JPS Health Network in July of 2016. At JPS Health Network, I was responsible for grants writing, grant coordination, and community outreach. Before that, I was with the Texas Department of Human Services, where I led a grant writing program for the state’s largest mental health charity, Mentor Health. In my time with Mentor Health, I developed and coached a grant writing program for a local mental health center. Additionally, I was a Grants Manager at the Dallas Homeless Housing Authority from July of 2009 to February of 2010. In my time at the Dallas Homeless Housing Authority, I managed grants for a number of homeless housing initiatives, including but not limited to: mental health outreach, homeless education and treatment, and homeless youth offender programming.I think that the experience of working with grants and community outreach would be a great asset for someone who wants to become a Grants Coordinator. I know that I would be able to learn more about grant writing and community outreach from these experiences, and I think that I would be able to contribute to the growth of the grants and community outreach field.
Alex Dunn's educational background and work readiness is based on his experiences as a social worker and graduate of the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Christian University. He has held a Master's degree from The University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor's degree from Texas Christian University.Dunn is a social work graduate with over two decades of experience working in various settings. He has been a director of development for a nonprofit organization, a project manager for a large government agency, and a therapist for children and adolescents. He has worked in two different states, Great Britain and Germany. In Ruskin, England, he worked with a local welfare agency and in Essen, Germany, he worked with a government agency. In his previous roles, he has Poorfamilies project managed, developed individual case plans for clients, and worked in mental health and early intervention programs.Besides his work in the field of social work, Dunn has worked in various stages of chemical dependency treatment. He has treated chemicaldependents who have experienced homelessness, chemicaldependents with methamphetamine use, and chemicaldependents with an alcohol dependency. He has also developed a treatment plan for chemicaldependents in prison.
