Tegan Murray

Tegan Murray is a dedicated Operations Officer at the NOAA Southwest Fisheries Science Center, where she plays a pivotal role in advancing ecosystem science through meticulous operational management and innovative technological support. With a background from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy and her service in the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, Tegan brings a unique blend of maritime expertise, leadership, and scientific acumen to her current role. Her responsibilities encompass overseeing complex marine operations, including the deployment and maintenance of autonomous underwater gliders, which are critical for collecting high-resolution oceanographic and biological data in remote and challenging environments such as the Southern Ocean and the California Current System. These autonomous systems enable researchers to gather vital information on marine ecosystems, fish populations, and climate-related changes, supporting NOAA’s mission to sustain healthy fisheries and resilient ecosystems.

In addition to her technical duties, Tegan serves as the operations lead for the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigations (CALCOFI) project aboard NOAA and UNOLS research vessels. She expertly coordinates cruise planning, mobilization, and logistical support, ensuring seamless execution of scientific expeditions that contribute to our understanding of California’s marine resources.
