About Susanne Joy

As the Geospatial Program Coordinator for Essex County, Susanne Joy has established herself as a pivotal figure in the development and execution of innovative geospatial solutions that enhance operational efficiency across various departments. With over twelve years of progressive experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Susanne has successfully designed and built the County's GIS department from the ground up, transitioning previously outsourced GIS functions in-house. This strategic move not only streamlined operations but also fostered a culture of collaboration and knowledge sharing among team members.

Under her leadership, Susanne has implemented robust policies and procedures that ensure the ongoing integrity and security of all County geospatial data. Her expertise in spatial databases and spatial analysis, combined with her proficiency in tools such as ArcGIS and Trimble GPS, allows her to assess and coordinate the geospatial needs of the County effectively. This capability is particularly crucial in high-stress environments where timely and accurate data is essential for decision-making.

Currently, Susanne is spearheading key projects that leverage advanced geospatial technologies to address critical issues such as urban planning, environmental management, and emergency response. Her active Department of Defense (DoD) Secret Clearance underscores her commitment to national security and her ability to work on sensitive projects that require a high level of trust and confidentiality. By bridging the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders, Susanne ensures that geospatial insights are accessible and actionable, ultimately driving Essex County toward a more data-informed future.
