About Simon Hirzel

Simon Hirzel, currently serving as Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter at the Abteilung für Empirische Kulturwissenschaft und Kulturanthropologie at Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn, brings a nuanced anthropological perspective to his research and project management. His expertise lies in exploring materiality and appropriation within Latin American contexts, with a particular focus on how global goods are locally reinterpreted and embedded into cultural practices. In his role, Simon actively contributes to interdisciplinary projects that bridge academic research with public engagement, such as the Neukonzeption des Bonner Stadtmuseums, where he coordinated efforts to develop innovative exhibition concepts that reflect both university scholarship and urban history.

Simon’s current projects include the Erschießung und Digitalisierung des Archivs des Atlas der deutschen Volkskunde, a significant initiative aimed at digitizing and preserving ethnographic archives. His skills in Sammlungskuration, Bild-, Video- und Textgestaltung, and Content-Management-Systeme (CMS) are instrumental in managing digital collections and creating engaging multimedia content for scholarly and public audiences. Additionally, his experience in Wissenschaftliches Schreiben and Grafikdesign enhances his ability to communicate complex anthropological insights effectively.

With a strong background in event planning and conference organization, Simon facilitates academic exchanges and public lectures that foster dialogue on material culture, cultural appropriation, and regional identities. His interdisciplinary approach, combining empirical research with digital curation and content management, positions him as a vital contributor to both university research initiatives and cultural heritage projects, advancing understanding of materiality and cultural dynamics in Latin America and beyond.
