Simo Smeets is currently serving as an Investment Trainee at PGGM, one of Europe's leading pension asset managers renowned for its commitment to sustainable investments and responsible asset management. In this dynamic role, Simo is gaining comprehensive exposure across various asset classes and investment strategies through a structured rotation program. His first rotation in Credit & Insurance Linked Investments has provided him with valuable insights into credit risk assessment, structured finance, and the integration of ESG factors into credit analysis. Moving forward, his subsequent rotations in Actuarial Advice & Asset Liability Management (ALM), Investment Risk Analysis, and Long-Term Equity Strategy will deepen his expertise in financial modeling, macroeconomic analysis, and strategic asset allocation.

Simo’s academic background in MSc. Finance with a focus on Sustainable Finance, complemented by MSc. Economics specializing in Financial Economics, equips him with a solid foundation in financial theory, macroeconomic trends, and sustainable investment principles. His ability to bridge different functions—be it risk management, actuarial insights, or strategic planning—makes him a valuable connector within PGGM’s multidisciplinary teams. Simo’s skills in macro- and micro-economics, combined with his proficiency in tools like Microsoft Excel and Word, enable him to analyze complex data and communicate insights effectively. His multilingual capabilities further enhance his ability to collaborate across diverse teams and stakeholders.
