Pol Sintes

Pol Sintes currently serves as the Sentinel-1 Deputy Service Team Coordinator and Spacecraft Operations Engineer at the European Space Operations Centre (ESOC), where he plays a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation and mission success of the Sentinel-1 satellite constellation. In this capacity, he is responsible for overseeing the spacecraft’s System and Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystems (AOCS), as well as the Reaction Control System (RCS), leveraging his extensive expertise in spacecraft operations and aerospace engineering. Pol’s deep understanding of spacecraft health monitoring, routine commanding, and anomaly resolution is critical to maintaining the high reliability and performance standards required for Earth observation missions.

His role involves coordinating complex operations, managing real-time data analysis, and implementing contingency procedures to address any spacecraft anomalies. Pol’s proficiency with tools such as SCOS 2000, STK, and LabVIEW enables him to perform detailed spacecraft state assessments and support mission planning activities. His background as a spacecraft controller, with hands-on experience on missions like GOCE and CryoSat-2, provides him with a strong foundation in spacecraft systems, satellite operations, and space systems engineering.

At ESOC, Pol is also actively involved in integrating new operational procedures and optimizing spacecraft performance through innovative solutions. His expertise in C++, Gambit, and Kubuntu supports the development and automation of operational workflows, enhancing efficiency and robustness. With a comprehensive skill set that spans spacecraft systems, satellite operations, and aerospace technologies, Pol Sintes continues to contribute significantly to the success of ESA’s Earth observation missions, ensuring the Sentinel-1 constellation delivers vital data for climate monitoring, disaster management, and environmental research.
