About Pho Hale

As a Research Laboratory Technician at the University of Michigan, Pho Hale plays a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of neurobehavioral science through innovative research methodologies. Working under the guidance of Dr. Brendon Watson, Pho is at the forefront of a groundbreaking project aimed at developing an open-source "digital homecage" for mice. This sophisticated system is designed to continuously collect and record multi-modal behavioral data over extended periods, exceeding seven weeks. By enabling longitudinal studies, this project seeks to unravel the complex effects of environmental and genetic factors on mouse behavior, thereby providing invaluable insights into brain function and its implications for human health.

Pho's expertise spans a diverse array of skills, including programming, bioinformatics, and data analysis, which are crucial for the successful design and implementation of the digital homecage system. Proficient in HTML and LaTeX, Pho ensures that the project's documentation is both comprehensive and accessible to the wider research community. Additionally, their strong foundation in multivariable calculus and linear algebra supports the sophisticated data modeling required for analyzing the vast amounts of behavioral data generated by the homecage.

Collaboration is at the heart of Pho's work, as they actively engage with interdisciplinary teams to foster a culture of innovation and knowledge sharing. Their commitment to open-source tools not only enhances the reproducibility of scientific research but also empowers fellow researchers to explore new avenues in neurobehavioral studies. By unlocking the secrets of the brain through technology and collaboration, Pho Hale is making significant strides in the field of neuroscience, paving the way for future discoveries that could transform our understanding of brain function and behavior.
