Patrick Michel

Patrick Pierre Michel currently serves as a Senior Researcher and Scientific Director of the Cell Culture Core Facility at the Institut du Cerveau – Paris Brain Institute, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing neurodegenerative research. His leadership in the core facility enables the development and optimization of sophisticated cell culture models that are fundamental for understanding the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration and neuroinflammation. Leveraging his extensive expertise in cellular pharmacology, Patrick has pioneered innovative in vitro systems that facilitate high-throughput screening and detailed mechanistic studies, particularly in the context of Parkinson’s disease.

A key focus of his current work involves participating in the European-funded IMI2 project PD-MitoQuant, which aims to elucidate the role of mitochondrial dysfunction in alpha-Synuclein aggregation—a hallmark of Parkinson’s pathology. Through this project, Patrick contributes to the characterization of neuroprotective strategies and the development of novel therapeutic targets. His proficiency in 3D imaging and cell biology techniques allows for detailed visualization and analysis of cellular processes, providing critical insights into disease progression and potential intervention points.
