About Narayan Kayet

Narayan Kayet serves as a Project Scientist at the Environmental Management & Policy Research Institute (EMPRI), a pivotal arm of the Department of Forest, Ecology, and Environment for the Government of Karnataka. In this role, Narayan is at the forefront of addressing critical environmental challenges through innovative research and data-driven solutions. Currently, he is leading the Air Quality Monitoring Project titled "Short-Lived Climate Pollutants for Karnataka," which is generously sponsored by the Sequoia Climate Foundation, U.S. This initiative is particularly significant as it aims to establish a comprehensive emission baseline inventory for short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as black carbon, tropospheric ozone, methane, and hydrofluorocarbons in Karnataka.

Narayan's expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), remote sensing, and advanced modeling techniques is instrumental in the project's success. Utilizing tools like ArcGIS, ERDAS Imagine, and ENVI, he conducts intricate analyses to model SLCP emissions and develop scenario-based projections that inform policy decisions. His proficiency with technologies such as DGPS, Total Station, and LiDAR further enhances the precision of the data collected, allowing for a more nuanced understanding of air quality dynamics in the region.

In addition to his technical skills, Narayan is deeply committed to climate change action, working collaboratively with stakeholders to devise strategies that mitigate the impacts of climate change on local communities. His role not only contributes to the scientific understanding of air quality issues but also plays a crucial part in shaping effective environmental policies that promote sustainable development in Karnataka. Through his work, Narayan exemplifies the intersection of science and policy, driving forward initiatives that aim to create a cleaner, healthier environment for future generations.
