Jillian Hahnlen currently serves as the Archaeologist and Laboratory Director at Brian F. Smith & Associates (BFSA), where she plays a pivotal role in advancing the firm’s archaeological research and project management initiatives. With over a decade of hands-on experience in California and Washington State, Jillian brings a comprehensive expertise in both prehistoric and historic artifact analysis, site survey methodologies, and archaeological reporting. Her leadership in directing complex excavation projects—including pedestrian surveys, test unit excavations, and shovel test sampling—ensures meticulous site recordation and accurate mapping using advanced GPS, GIS, and Total Station technologies.

As Laboratory Director, Jillian oversees the processing and cataloging of artifacts, employing specialized skills in lithic analysis, faunal analysis, and artifact cataloging to derive meaningful insights from archaeological finds. She manages all aspects of project workflow, from initial field survey to final report writing, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and client expectations.
