Hellen Mwendwa

Hellen Mwendwa is a dedicated Internal Audit & Risk Officer at the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), where she has been instrumental in strengthening the organization’s risk management framework since September 2017. Her journey with KNCHR began as an intern in May 2016, providing her with a solid foundation in financial oversight and compliance, which she has since built upon through her current role. Hellen’s expertise lies in conducting comprehensive audits of financial statements, ensuring transparency and accountability in the organization’s operations. She plays a pivotal role in reviewing internal control systems, assessing operational processes, and identifying areas for improvement to mitigate potential risks.

One of her key responsibilities involves implementing and updating the organization’s Risk Management Policy. Working closely with risk champions across various departments, Hellen helps maintain and enhance the risk registers, ensuring that emerging threats are promptly identified and managed. Her analytical skills and proficiency in assurance services enable her to generate insightful reports for the board, highlighting the organization’s top 10 risks and providing strategic recommendations to mitigate them. Additionally, Hellen conducts risk management training sessions, empowering staff with the knowledge to uphold best practices in internal controls and risk mitigation.

Her proficiency in financial accounting, auditing, and assurance, combined with her strong command of tools like Microsoft Excel and Word, positions her as a vital contributor to KNCHR’s governance and accountability initiatives.
