Gio Acabal

Gio Acabal is a seasoned professional in power plant operations, currently serving at Southern California Edison (SCE) within the Power Plant Operations division. In this role, Gio brings extensive expertise in managing and optimizing the performance of complex thermal power generation systems, including two advanced combined cycle trains featuring GE combustion turbines (CTs) and steam turbines (STs), complemented by Foster Wheeler Heat Recovery Steam Generators (HRSGs). These facilities collectively deliver approximately 1,100 MWe of reliable electricity, supporting SCE’s commitment to clean and efficient energy production.

Gio’s deep operational knowledge spans a broad range of equipment, including GE D11 steam turbines, GE 7FA gas turbines, GE LM 6000 aeroderivative turbines, and Foster Wheeler HRSGs. His hands-on experience with these assets enables him to oversee critical functions such as preventive maintenance, control room operations, and troubleshooting, ensuring optimal plant performance and compliance with industry standards. Additionally, Gio has demonstrated proficiency in managing operations of various steam turbines ranging from 37 MW to 350 MW, as well as coal-fired and refuse-fired boilers, including stoker systems, which require precise control and safety protocols.

A key aspect of Gio’s role involves leveraging advanced control software like GE Mark VI and Ovation to enhance operational efficiency and reliability. His expertise in plant design, personnel training, and project support positions him as a vital contributor to SCE’s strategic initiatives for grid stability and sustainable energy delivery.
