Dwayne Drescher

Dwayne Drescher currently serves as the Inuvialuit Community Research Network (ICRN) Manager at the Inuvialuit Regional Corporation, where he plays a pivotal role in advancing Indigenous-led research initiatives across the remote communities of the Inuvialuit Settlement Region. In this capacity, Dwayne oversees the strategic implementation and coordination of the network, ensuring that research projects align with community priorities, cultural values, and sustainable development goals. His leadership involves managing a dedicated team of six Research Administrative staff, each embedded within their respective communities, fostering strong local partnerships and promoting Indigenous knowledge systems within research frameworks.

With a background rooted in Indigenous language education, culture teaching, and leadership in Indigenous education organizations, Dwayne brings a unique perspective to his role. His expertise in fostering inclusivity and culturally responsive methodologies enhances the network’s capacity to support community-driven research that respects traditional knowledge and promotes Indigenous sovereignty. Dwayne’s skills in securing funding, managing program finances, and mentoring staff are critical to the success of the ICRN, enabling it to undertake impactful projects that address community needs and contribute to regional development.

His recent academic achievement of a Master of Education in Administration with a focus on leadership in Indigenous education further strengthens his ability to navigate complex organizational dynamics and advocate for Indigenous rights within research and policy environments. As a hunter, fisherman, and trapper, Dwayne maintains a deep connection to his cultural practices, which informs his approach to community engagement and research ethics. Through his leadership, Dwayne Drescher continues to foster a research environment that is inclusive, culturally grounded, and aligned with the aspirations of the Inuvialuit people.
