The Children's Literacy Charity

Literacy is a real gift that we often don’t appreciate enough. The vision of The Children's Literacy Charity is to close the literacy gap for all disadvantaged children. Never has our work been more vital than it is today. Growing evidence shows that the past year of lockdowns has had an impact on children's language skills, with 76% of pupils starting school in September 2020 needing more support with communication than in previous years. The Children’s Literacy Charity exists to change the lives of children and young people. Our vision is to see all underachieving children recognise their value and achieve their true potential, and we do this by providing individualised early intervention literacy teaching and by building skills and confidence in learning. Literacy Labs, in schools and community spaces, provide children with the vital and rare opportunity to receive high-quality literacy intervention. Our Expert tutors, within each Literacy Lab, provide regular, 45-minute one-to-one tuition that is tailored to suit each individual child’s needs.
