Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the leading Swiss child relief agency. Founded in 1960, we are committed to improving the lives of millions of the world's most vulnerable children. The Regional Office in Budapest has been operating since 2006.There are two main issues Terre des hommes is focusing on in South-East Europe: children on the move and the strengthening of child protection systems. Political changes in the region have brought with them sweeping decentralization, large social changes and the dissolutions of welfare systems. With extremely low wages in the public sector, social safety nets are more theoretical than real and vulnerable children are often left without any services available to them. At the same time major trends of migration have started from transition countries like Bulgaria, Romania, Albania to other European countries, including children alone or in families.
