Myanmar Citizens Bank Ltd (MCB) was established in 1991 ( with registration no. 274/1991-92, banking license no. Ma Ba Ba/J(i)-1(5)t1992 ). MCB started activities on 2nd June, 1992, in downtown Yangon, at No. 383, MaharBandoola Road, Kyauktada Township. Myanmar Citizens Bank is one of the oldest banks in the country and the first private commercial bank.
The bank has a wide range of shareholders including 2,000 private individuals, the Ministry of Commerce and six conglomerates and entrepreneurs. It is very active in SME and Retail segments with a wide range of product offerings to cater to the needs of its customers, such as loans, overdrafts, hire purchase, remittance services, international trade services and deposits. In terms of assets, MCB is a mid-tier bank with a network of 44 branches covering 12 cities in the country and a total staff strength of over 1,000 in 2020.
MCB has embarked on a transformation journey to modernize itself as per international standard best practices by taking significant steps to build its banking operations and product offerings. It is the first bank to be listed on the Yangon Stock Exchange in August 2016 working within a strong governance framework fostering strong ethical values and transparency in its business.
