Information
The Mt. Lebanon Fire Department provides all-hazards, all-risks fire and rescue services to the residents of Mt. Lebanon, located on the Southern border of the City of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Department is a combination fire department comprised of 17 career and 40 volunteer firefighters serving a population of approximately 33,000 in 6.0 square miles. The Department operates out of a single fire station with three engines, a truck, a heavy rescue, a mobile command unit, and four squads. The Department responds to approximately 1,800 calls annually and participates in over 1,000 hours of community-related activities. The Department is divided into six functional areas: Administration, Operations & Emergency Management, Training, Resource Management, Community Outreach & Special Operations, and Fire Prevention & Life Safety Education. The Fire Prevention & Life Safety Education Division manages several significant community risk reduction initiatives including the fire and life safety education program in the schools, plans review, pre-planning, and comprehensive code enforcement and inspection activities. Within the Municipality, there is a major (350+ bed) hospital, 11,958 single-family dwellings and duplexes, 197 apartment buildings, 5 nursing homes, 9 assisted living facilities, 15 group homes, 15 schools, 16 churches, a regional mall, a downtown business district, several strip shopping centers, and numerous local commercial districts. The average fire flow for commercial occupancies in the community is 1,907 gallons per minute while the average square footage is 21,753 square feet.
